1948 Philco 48-460 Ivory Bakelite AM Radio the "Hippo"

The "Hippo", Philco's Post - War Cult Radio Second Edition 1948, in Factory Painted Ivory Bakelite, Mint Serviced and Working

In a Nutshell
Rare Original Ivory Version of this Iconic Radio in Mint Condition

Introduction:
The "Hippo" was a Philco Evergreen from its inception as model 46-420 in 1946 for more than 3 years, including models 48-460 and 49-900. They all have obtained cult status among collectors, especially the factory ivory painted versions. Although made in about equal numbers, the ivory models are generally much harder to find and mostly in bad shape, because the paint got chipped, the identifying white back plane got lost, or the paint was stripped and replaced by amateur painters, necessitating also the application of a new decal. Many radios also were just stripped and left as plain bakelite versions.
The 48-460 uses 6 tubes and receives the AM band. It uses two IF filters and thus has better selectivity than its 1946 precedessor.

About my radio:

My radio is all original, having only a very small number of very small paint defects, that I touched up by hand. The most noticeable is visible in pict.8 as a faint scratch about 1 cm from the back edge and above the dial number 140. The radio has its original white back plane and its original decal. It has a very nice shine, that is however hard to take pictures of. The chassis has no rust, the speaker has no tears, the tubes all test above average. The radio plays loud and clear with good sensitivity and selectivity over the whole band spread. Please e-mail me (Kris) for any questions, ich spreche Deutsch, je parle Français.
